HELP ME HELP YOU. These are the infamous words once passionately spoken by Jerry Maguire to Rod Tidwell and now from the Microneedling Process to your skin. The benefits of Microneedling are numerous, but the most unique and valuable is that it gives you dramatic results by helping your skin to do its job, to heal itself, to GLOW.
What is it?
Microneedling is also known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy. A handheld device uses tiny needles to make microscopic punctures in the skin.
Why do we need it?
As we age, our bodies produce less and less collagen, leading to increased wrinkles and decreased skin elasticity. We also lose collagen in areas where the skin scars (from acne or other injury) or where it stretches (causing stretch marks). The term “collagen” refers to an essential protein made of elastic fibers that keep skin tight and give it the smooth, stretchy texture we all seek. Microneedling remedies this without injecting foreign substances into your body, making it perfect for both skincare enthusiasts and the granola crowd.
How does it work?
The benefits of Microneedling come when your skin is forced to produce extra collagen and elastin to heal the tiny wounds. Microneedling creates “micro-injuries” that put the skin in “repair mode” and cause it to repair itself and produce new collagen through a process called dermal remodeling. In other words, inflammation from the micro-injuries stimulates the skin to produce new collagen.
Microneedling generally rejuvenates the skin and leaves it glowing. Those of you who have no specific complaints will still see overall improvement, and those seeking dramatic improvement will attain just that.
While the benefits of Microneedling are vast, it is perhaps best known for remedying fine lines and wrinkles. It addresses a wide range of skin imperfections, such as sun damage, scarring from acne or other injury, burns, large pores, and stretch marks. It also improves alopecia, irregular skin pigmentation, rosacea, and loose skin. Due to all of these benefits, Microneedling is popular among men and women of all ages (Ryan makes sure he receives a Microneedling treatment regularly)
Microneedling also boosts the effectiveness of other treatments by allowing topical treatments to be deposited deeper into the skin. Professionals often use it along with vitamin C, PRP, or PRF.
The benefits of Microneedling are not limited to the face. It can be used anywhere on the body you wish to boost collagen production or diminish the appearance of scarring. We recommend extending your treatment to your neck, chest, and hands. Microneedling can also address thinning hair by stimulating dormant hair follicles.
Instant Gratification AND Patience
Remember that, while Microneedling yields a fairly immediate plump, pink glow (due to superficial swelling), it is not a quick fix. The full, dramatic improvement we love to see is a result of the skin healing itself. A 2008 study showed a 400% increase in collagen and elastin 6 months after completing 4 monthly treatments.
To fully enjoy the benefits of Microneedling, we recommend about 4 microneedling treatments monthly in colder months. Once you achieve your desired results, you can maintain your glow with treatments every 4-6 months.
Want MORE? Radiofrequency Microneedling
Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling takes the benefits of this treatment to the next level. Here, shorter flow needles deliver radiofrequency energy into the dermis, heating it and resulting in tightened skin and increased collagen. This new
and improved means of Microneedling is also lesspainful as the needles do not need topenetrate as deeply to obtain optimal results. We offer this at Lakeside Medspa, and many of our clients testify to less pain and faster results! To really see dramatic improvement, combine RF Microneedling with laser in our SmoothGlo Facial!
