6 Botox Questions Answered

1.What is Botox?

Botox is actually the brand name of “botulinum toxin type A” which is a powerful neuromodulator.  However, the type A strain (the one used to make Botox) is purified in a lab to be 100% free of bacteria, which makes it perfectly safe for use as an injectable treatment against things like:

  • Facial wrinkles
  • Uncontrollable blinking
  • Uncontrollable neck and muscle spasms
  • Severe underarm sweating
  • Chronic migraines
  • Overactive bladders

2.Who Is A Candidate For Botox?

In the Medical Spa industry, botox is commonly used as a solution for facial wrinkles and fine lines. Anyone with unwanted facial lines and wrinkles is a candidate for botox.  Given as a cosmetic injectable treatment, botox helps to soften and relax facial appearance. Botox can also be used in the spa setting for the treatment of migraines, TMJ or hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

3.How Does Botox Work?

By temporarily preventing the signal from nerves within your muscles, botox stops the contraction of targeted muscles within your face. When these targeted muscles cannot contract, they relax and smooth out signs of wrinkles and lines within the skin, providing younger, flawless results.

4.Are There Risks With Botox?

Botox is extremely safe. As a non-surgical FDA approved cosmetic procedure, there are minimal risks involved.  Some patients may experience bruising or temporary facial asymmetry, but that quickly resolves itself as the product works over a period of days.  Rare risks include allergic reactions, headache, fever, or chills.

5.How Long Does Botox Last?

Botox treatments often only take between 15 and 20 minutes, with results taking 4-10 days to notice. This is because it takes up to 2 weeks for the botox to fully relax the targeted muscles. Generally, the effects will last for 3 months..  Thanks to muscle memory, the more regularly you have Botox injections, the longer the effect will last between sessions.
